Protocol (Communication Language)
Protocol is the mode of communication between communication devices.
Internet Protocol (IP) is the format of communication between computers on
the internet. Examples of internet protocols are HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the protocol used to transmit
web pages of websites.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the Protocol used in file transfer
service on the Internet.
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is the protocol used to send
and receive emails.
Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is a
combination of two protocols. The TCP establishes connection between
two computers and ensures properly delivery of data. Whereas IP is
used to deliver data.
Internet Protocol Address
Internet Protocol Address (IP Address) is a sequence of numbers used to identify
computers and websites on the internet. e.g. 72.14.207.99, 69.171.229.11, etc.
Web Browser
A web browser is software that allows you to find and view information on the
internet. It is software used to search the web to retrieve and present information
on web pages to the users. E.g. Internet Explorer (default on Windows), Firefox,
Opera, Safari, Netscape, Chrome, UC, Maxthon, etc.
How to Launch a Browser
1. Click the "Start Menu Button" to display the "Start Menu"
2. Point to "All Programs" .
3. Point (select) browser of your choice.
4. Click on the selected browser (e, g. Internet Explorer) to launch it.
OR
Double click the shortcut icon of a browser on the desktop.
OR
Right click on the shortcut icon of a browser on the desktop and then
select (click) "open" from the pop up options.
