Chapter 6 - Typing Symbols
In this lesson we will learn how to type the symbol characters. You have already
learned how to identify them in previous lessons, but now we will be learning
how to type them.
We will begin by revisiting the punctuation keys you just learned in the previous
lesson.

The Ampersand (&)
The Ampersand or and (&) which is the secondary character for the 7 key. To
type the & key:
Press and hold down shift key.
Then press the 7 key with the right index finger, reaching up and to the
left of the U key.

The Asterisk (*)
The Asterisk (*) is the secondary character is for the 8 key. T0 type the * key;
Press and hold down shift key.
Then press the 8 key with the right middle finger, reaching up and to
the left of the I key.

Parenthesis ( )
Let's learn to parenthesize with the ( and ) characters! The open (left)
parenthesis, (, uses the same key as the 9 key, and the close (right) parenthesis, )
, uses the same key as the 0 key. You will reach the (key with the right ring
finger, above and to the left of the 0 key, and type it while holding the Left Shift
Key.
