SECTION XII – FOOD SERVICE

               Food Service – Self Operations

               Purpose:       The Board of Education recognizes that Food Service is required for the
                              promotion of education. The Board has the responsibility to provide food services to all
                              students.

               Procedure:

               The superintendent is administratively responsible for the administration of the school food service
               program and assigns responsibility and duties for carrying out the program to the Director of Child
               Nutrition.   The Director of Child Nutrition is directly responsible for the operation of the program in the
               individual schools.  The school principal is responsible for the behavior of students using the school
               cafeteria.

               Compliance with MDE Policy and Procedure Manual for Child Nutrition Programs

               The school district shall provide a program of child nutrition consistent with state and federal
               guidelines and in accordance with the Mississippi Department of Education Policy and Procedure
               Manual for Child Nutrition Programs as updated per Federal CFR guidance.

               New Students

               Upon registration, new students are given applications for free and reduced meals.

               Free and Reduced Meal Applications

               Child Nutrition provides Applications for free and reduced meals to each school before the opening of
               school. The applications are disseminated by the school to students and then returned to school upon
               completion. Completed applications are then forwarded to Child Nutrition Secretary.

               Determining Eligibility for participation in the Child Nutrition Program

               Eligibility is determined in accordance with applicable regulations established by the Department of
               Agriculture. After determination, letters are sent to all applicants advising them of their status (i.e. free,
               reduced or denied). All applications are maintained in the central office as required by the State.
