By November 15 , the required percentage of applications deemed eligible for free and reduced are
verified. These applications are chosen at random and applicants are asked to provide name and social
security number for each adult listed on the application as well as proof of income.
Bidding
Milk and other food items are subject to the bidding requirement of the Mississippi State Contract Law.
Daily Deposits
1. Deposits are prepared daily, by school and reconciled to the register tapes by food service
personnel.
2. They are then put into a locked bank bag and brought to the bank.
3. Deposit totals are reconciled to the bank statement by business office personnel.
4. Money for Elementary students is collected on a daily basis.
5. Money is collected at each Elementary School and deposited in the food service management
company’s point of sale system.
Setting Prices
Each year, the Board of Education sets prices for food services. Every effort is made to set prices that are
affordable for students, but enable food services to operate without contribution from board funds.
Commodities
The district shall participate in the commodities program offered by the Mississippi Department of
Agriculture.
