In this chapter you will study the importance of effective communication to
businesses and the methods they use to achieve this. You will also learn about those
things that might prevent effective communication. These are known as barriers to
communication.
Effective communication and how it is achieved
Every day in businesses around the world people communicate with each other.
The purpose of communication is to ensure that all parts of a business’s operations
run smoothly. So, for example, when a manager gives instructions to employees,
it is important they understand what it is they are being asked to do, so that they
carry out their work efficiently. When a customer places an order, it needs to be clear
