Welcome to Tech Talk August edition.
Summer is here and with it comes summer storms with power fluctuations and outages along with lightening strikes. All of
which can be deadly to your computers and electronics. Did you know that plugging your computer into a regular surge
bar will not protect it from spikes in your hydro lines (dirty power, brown outs etc.). In order to protect your electronics,
you can either unplug them when not in use or purchase a surge protector with a power conditioner built in.
The power conditioner essentially smooths out the spikes in the hydro that is being delivered through your lines. Lots of
lightening happening, just unplug your devices. I have seen a strike where it blew the surge protector into pieces. Don’t
take the chance.
