CONGRATULATIONS MADOC LIONS CLUB!
A recent major award from the national Lions Club is proof
that members of the Madoc Lions Club live up to their
motto –“The Small Club With The Big .”
The award is called the “A” Service Award, which
recognizes the most service to per capita residents ,
embracing five areas of service – hunger relief,
environment, vision, diabetes, childhood cancer and more.
President Tom Simpson sketched out that the club is
involved in some 62 different projects over a year. Projects
include support for Madoc Hospice House – equipment
purchases, lawn and winter maintenance, grocery delivery
and free bingos for seniors, Good Food Bag program
support and the local food bank, helping fund Madoc’s new
pool, Kids Keep Warm support, food vouchers for fire
victims and those in need, support for electric scooters and mobility aids, student bursaries, school snack programs, butterfly
study kits, community Christmas dinner, education trips for students, support front line medical care workers, Meals on
Wheels, Fire Department support, veterans’ dinners, family skating, Grace Inn Homeless Shelter and partner with Kiwanis
Club for community Easter event plus more.
Founded in May of 2012, the club has about 20 members. The
award, based on Centre Hastings population, translates into an
average of 953 persons served per member, the best record of
all clubs in District A (49 clubs)
