Genesis 4(KJV)1. And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
You asked your congregation are you giving a Abel offering or are you giving a Cain offering? Cain gave a offering he knew he could recover, so his offering came out of the ground. Abel gave a offering he knew it was not coming back, therefore God had to show up. The lesson here is God will show up, as always God is wanting to be first in your life in all areas of your life.
So many times the message for Tithes and Offering is if you just give everything will be ok, God will bless you. This is not true, God is not impressed with the money he has already given. What moves God is your time for him, your prayer life, your church life and your tithes and offering. You cannot not leave anyone of these out, just like you cannot bake a pie and leave an ingredient out.
Malachi 3:8-11 (KJV) 8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now here- with, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
