LEAVES
Start with the small leaf and use the upper values except for the shadow and the veins. Use Dark Value (D) to give the leaf form. For the accent colors use the High Dark Orange Value. The large leaf is painted using the darker values of green only coming up to the light value for the “highlight.” The dark spots are the Low Dark Value (LD), make sure they are scattered. The accent orange is the High Dark and Dark Values. The pumpkin stem is a strange shape; that’s why I chose it, of course. Following the placement of values and blending with a small brush you should have no problems. In the glazing process, you can put in the dark spots and blushes. I usually do them at this point so I can adjust the size and placement better.
MIXES
Highlight (HL): W + L (CYP)
Light (L): LL+ W + CYP (to brighten) Low Light (LL): M + W
Medium Value (M): M + W
**Dark Value (D): CYP + UMB + B Low Dark Value (LD): D + B
PERSIMMONS
The persimmons are a combination of the Orange and Green Values. The small persimmon is tucked partially under the large leaf, but it does catch some of the light. Since the larger persimmon is catching most of the light, it is painted in the higher values. The Green Values are placed according to the placement diagram. Remember the leaves and persimmons were found on the ground and it’s fall, so they are full of colors.

MIXES
Light Value (L): W + M Medium Value (M): DK + W Dark Value (D): BU + B
Make sure the twigs have character and form. I painted them first using the dark value on the outside edges and medium towards the center. the light areas are where the branch catches the light.
