The name Sundanese found in a Kingdom is recorded in two stone inscriptions. The two
stones were found in different locations, namely in the Bogor area and in the Sukabumi area.
The first Inscription Stone was found in the village of Pasir Muara, more precisely on the
outskirts of a rice field not far from the location of the Prasasti telapak gajah. The Prasasti telapak
gajah is an inscription that is a relic of Purnawarman.
The stone inscription found in Pasir Muara village has an inscription or sentence containing
four lines. Bosch translated the sentence on the stone of the inscription, "this is the sign of rakryan
Juru Pangambat's greeting; alam tahun (Saka) kawihaji (8) panca (5) pasagi (4), the government
of the country was returned to the King of Sunda."
To read the year numbers, it is read from right to left, because the year numbers have a
trumpet pattern. Thus, the creation of the inscription was in 458 Saka or 536 AD.
In the stone of the second inscription there is an image of a pair of elephant's soles and on
the inscription there is an inscription containing "jayavi shãlasya tãrumnendrasya hastinah
airãvatãbhasya vibhãtidam padadvayam". If interpreted into Indonesian means "the two footprints
are brilliant elephant footprints like Airawata belonging to the victorious and powerful ruler of
Tarumanegara).
As additional information, Airawata in Hindu mythology is the name of the elephant ridden
by Batara Indra. He is a god of war and lord of thunder.
The Sunda Kingdom left some relics that can still be seen today. The majority of the relics of
the Sunda Kingdom are in the land of Sunda or better known as West Java. Here are some relics
of the Sunda Kingdom.
