Belief
The majority of Sundanese are Muslims (about 99.85%). There is also a small percentage
of Sundanese who are Christians (about 0.08%) such as in the Cigugur area of Kuningan
Regency. Sundanese people who adhere to Christianity are also spread in several areas other than
Cigugur, Kuningan, namely in: Cianjur & Bandung. Evidence of the existence of Christianity in
the land of Sunda and in the Sundanese community can be proven by the existence of the Pasundan
Christian Church which is a Protestant Christian Church containing Sundanese people who adhere
to Protestantism with a congregation of approximately 30-33 thousand people out of 35-36
thousand souls of the Christian Sundanese community of which the rest adhere to Catholicism. The
Sunda Wiwitan religion still survives in some rural communities of the Sundanese tribe, such as
in the Sunda Baduy community. The population is significantly found in Lebak Regency,
Banten. Some of the rest are also found in rural areas of West Java. The majority of the Sunda
Baduy people in Banten still adhere to the original Sundanese beliefs, and they are also divided
into 2, namely: Outer Baduy and Inner Baduy. Even so, there are also Baduy people who adhere
to Islam. Although the number is only a small amount of about 1% of the total population of the
Baduy people. There are also some Sundanese tribes that still adhere to Hindu-Buddhist teachings,
but there are very few, which is 0.01% of the population. Some of them are known to have
blood/descendants of the nobles of the Sundanese kingdom in ancient times during the Hindu-
Buddhist period.
Language
standard sundanese script
In everyday speech, ethnic Sundanese use a lot of Sundanese. But now many Sundanese
people, especially those living in urban areas, no longer use the Sundanese language in speaking
words. As happened in the crowded centers of Bandung, Bogor, Bekasi and Tangerang, where
many people used the Sundanese language mixed with Indonesian.
