The race 8 hero
After a recent toothy and sadly tragic canine entanglement, our one winged hero Charlie Salter still came out to help
Sirocco race under the helm of Ailsa Pender. But that’s not all. At the rounding of the RMYS E Mark a gear retreival
incident took place. Some fancy sailing during this time was noted by the Race tower gin swigers. After this incident
Sirocco put her head down and sailed like the fleet was chasing her.
As most of us used our push bikes to get to school or work in those good old days we can appreciate what it
took to ride a push bike from UK to Singapore. We know Ailsa Pender does. After growing up with
experience of sailing on the Clyde, Ailsa is now part of the Janet Wilkes rigging team. She also part of
the Janet Dean and Jim Hutchinson team on Janet Deans Adams 10 Jungle Juice. FYI Janet Wilkes is
the one who helmed the Tumlaren Dingo when it put the frights on Mercedes III at the recent
Geelong Wooden Boat Festival.
Let’s not forget Tandanya
No way we can forget our Locker 57
trophy winner from 2003/2004,
Tandanya and her contribution to
the 2022 Winter Series. Classic
recognition of the work her
skipper Romauld Andrew put
in to have Tandanya listed as
an entry for races 7 and 8 must
be stated. To have the weather
put paid to the effort by
Andrew was hard to take. The
interest in having Tandanya

once again racing is not only
the classics but also with the
many Tandanya watchers
around the bay. Sirocco starts race 8 to weather of Mercedes III
Tandanya competing in the 2016 Cup Regatta
