TRANSPORTATION
Samui Airport is a private airport built and owned by Bangkok Airways. When the
airport was constructed in 1989, Bangkok Airways was the the main operator and the
only airline providing service to and from Koh Samui and mainland Thailand. The airport
terminal complex has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Award due to its
use of locally produced palm leaves and its natural, open-air cooling system.
Several ferries connect the island with the mainland, including two vehicle & pedestrian
ferries (Raja Ferries and Seatran). These ferry services also connect the mainland port
of Don Sak to piers in the west of the island in Lipa Noi and Nathon. Buses from Nathon
can also get to the mainland via ferry and take passengers to all mainland destination.
Public transportation songthaews (small, open air vehicles with a covered back seating
area) circle the main ‘ring road’ picking up passengers along the route. Their fees are
fixed depending on the destination and they operate only during daylight hours. Private
‘taxi meter’ taxis are also available throughout the island. Fees are determined by the
meter, distance and set service charge.
Hotel transportation can be arranged for destinations on the island. Contact the Front
Desk for more information and arrangements.
Enjoy our chau eur drive services with aircondition vehicles, English speaking
chau eur, WiFi, cold towel, island map and drinking water.
