WEATHER AND CLIMATE
Koh Samui Weather
Thailand is situated in the Gulf of Thailand between the Tropic of Cancer and the
Equator (slightly closer to the latter) with tropical warm and humid climate year-round.
There are three seasons here: dry, hot and rainy. The humidity level stays between 70
and 85 per cent, and the temperature averages around 28°C. Generally speaking,
weather conditions are good to superb year-round with optimum conditions between
December and August.
The Dry Season
The dry season in Samui is December to February. This seasons features warm yet
bearable temperatures, little rain, calm seas, and light winds. Hotels and the tourist
industry consider this to be peak season as it is the perfect time to visit the island.
The Hot Season
The hottest time of year is between March and April. This is a great time to visit if you
can stand 30°C+ temperatures. Around late April or early May, there are sudden and, at
least for the locals, welcome short bursts of rain. June to August is also considered
peak season on Samui. The weather loosely follows a pattern of strong daytime
sunshine followed by an occasional late afternoon thunderstorm. It is indeed very
agreeable.
The Rainy Season
November is the monsoon season in the region and, therefore, the potential for more
than usual rainfall. The weather can be somewhat unpredictable with slightly rougher
seas and stronger winds. Even during this season, the rain doesn’t fall every day, and
when it does, it is often only in short bursts. Although in some ways an even better
time to visit the island (more priviledged guests).
