Thai people are ethnically, culturally and religiously diverse. As such, there are many
enduring and traditional events and festivals to share and experience. While some
cultural events are celebrated nationwide, others are uniquely local. The largest and
most celebrated events in Thailand are the Songkran Festival, Loy Krathong and the
Chak Pra Festival.
Songkran (Water Festival)
Songkran Festival is a celebration of the Thai New Year. There are many subtle and
reverent traditions associated with the true meaning of Songkran that are followed by
locals. Nearly everyone, however, also joins in the festivites of what has become the
biggest, longest and most enjoyable holiday in Thailand and maybe in the world!
Songkran is also known as ‘The Water Festival’ for good reason as it turns into a
nationwide three-day water fight occuring during the hottest time of the year. Music,
dancing, drinking and people drenched from head to toe are features during this
multi-day splash-fest. Water guns, hoses, buckets – anything you can get your hands on
- can be used to splash people from the roadside or even from the back of trucks
rolling through the villages. Roads are closed for the celebration and in some places it
is impossible to go anywhere without getting wet. No matter where you are in Thailand,
during three days in the middle of April you will be within walking distance of fun,
celebration and a lot of water!

Maenam Beach
Excellent views of Koh Phangan, silky sand and resorts located at the end of long

makes Mae Nam Beach special.
Bophut Beach
