Abstrak: English is a very important language to master at the present moment.
This mastery of English must be encouraged because inevitably we cannot be
separated from English. An example of promoting English mastery is through
speaking classes. However, many students are not interested in using this
speaking class well to practice mastery of English. This speaking class was
avoided because they were afraid to speak in English. The most basic thing that
causes them to not want to speak using English is the presence of an anxiety
disorder. So the purpose of this study is to find out what are the causes of
anxiety disorders in the Speaking class of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar.
The method used is a Qualitative method with data collection techniques using
interview techniques. The results of this study found several causes of anxiety
disorders in the speaking classroom, such as overthinking, vocabulary mastery,
students' incomprehension of the topics discussed, lack of self-confidence,
mental weakness, panic attack, and lack of ideas
