Abstrak: The process of learning Indonesian subjects in senior high schools in
the Riau Islands Province still uses conventional textbooks, such as books
provided by the government or from certain publishers. Teachers do not have
backup teaching materials that contain content about local wisdom. This is due
to the limited ability of the teachers in concocting teaching materials that
contain Malay local wisdom. In fact, when teaching Indonesian, teachers can
also introduce Malay cultural identity through the content contained in the text.
Based on this, this research is very necessary to determine the level of need for
teaching materials containing local Malay and maritime wisdom. This study
uses a qualitative approach with interview techniques. High school teachers in
Tanjungpinang City were appointed as informants. Their opinions were
collected through the recording equipment provided. The data were analyzed
using in-depth exploration techniques to obtain a more comprehensive picture.
The results of this study indicate that most of the informants stated that they
really needed the development of teaching materials based on local Malay
maritime wisdom. However, their limitations in developing these teaching
materials are still the main factors that have hindered them so far. In addition,
the results of the study also showed that they were very enthusiastic about
providing the necessary references related to the development of teaching
materials carried out.
