Maintenance
Routine Procedures
Carriage Gearbox
If the gearbox is equipped with a “Site-Gauge”, observe the level through the glass. If it is
determined that lubricant needs changing, move two steps ahead. See bottom of this
page for refill instructions.
Helpful Hint
If your gearboxes do NOT have the
Drain Extensions or the Site- Lubricant
Gauges it is strongly advised that Site-Gauge
you purchase and install them
during scheduled maintenance.
This will allow for much easier
gearbox maintenance in the future.
If gearbox is NOT equipped with a “Site-Gauge”, move on to the next step.
Remove the vent on the top of the Gearbox to allow air in therefore improving the flow of
lubricant.
Once the oil has been drained and refilled to the proper level, replace the bottom drain
plug or the drain cap if equipped with a drain tube using Teflon® tape on all plugs and
caps.

Replace the vent.
Lubricant Refill Instructions
Fill each gearbox with synthetic gear lubricant to the proper
level. The following synthetic gear lubricants are to be used.
MOBIL SHC629 This level
MOBIL SHC634 indicates Oil levels
CHEVRON TEGRA 460 the midway between

If a site gauge is installed on the gearbox, use the
following to determine the fill level: The lowest point
visible is the halfway fill point. Between the lowest
point and halfway up the site gauge is an acceptable
fill level.
Verify that all plugs, vents and drain tubes are in place and not leaking.
