Operational Performance and Controls
Understanding Air-Over-Oil
Swing Flow Controls
These are the Flow Controls connected to each Oil Reservoir. They control the hydraulic flow rate from the
cylinder. On each stand (leg assembly), there are two such controls. One is for controlling the rate of Swing
Retract and the other for controlling the rate of Swing Extend.
The orientation of the hydraulic Flow Controls is set so that peak pressures seen in operation are contained
within the Hydraulic Cylinder. When adjustments are being considered, the technician should be aware that the
focus is not at what rate to allow flow IN, but the rate to allow flow OUT of the Hydraulic Cylinder. See diagram
below to better understand.
Flow Control Valve: Turning the Flow Control knobs adjusts the “Controlled Flow” of
oil being discharged from the Hydraulic Cylinder into the Oil Reservoir.
This Flow Control Valve has a “Flow Direction” arrow engraved on its side that
indicates free flowing oil that passes through the internal check valve into the Reservoir
at a rate determined by the force of the user-set Controlled Flow.

Understanding Regulator Adjustments
1RGLTR175
This is the adjustable control of the penetration pressure seen on the car. This control also affects the settings of
the swing flow controls due to their operation is in series with this air regulator (Small Regulator on the Air
Panel).
1RGLTR650
This is the primary adjustment with concerns of the head extend/ retract speed. Sole setting of the heads extend
speed and when used in series with a needle valve flow control effects the rate of head retract (Large Regulator
on the Air Panel).
