PIVOTING WHEEL STINGER Mix and Match
Introduction
Market studies have identified that one of the most under serviced areas on vehicles are the wheels. With the trend in
the market focusing on tunnel equipment, specifically introducing newer methods for servicing vehicle wheels,
Belanger engineering has focused on designing components that satisfy the demand for wheel cleaning applications.
The Pivoting Wheel Stinger™ is a component that can be programmed to operate during any wash package to
provide extra attention on the vehicle wheels. The driver-side and passenger-side delivery manifolds are constructed
from 2-inch stainless steel pipe with three ½” NPT threaded ports that can accommodate various nozzle configurations.
The nozzle arrangement and water volume of the Pivoting Wheel Stinger™ application is dependant on the pump
station capability, which allows the customer to customize the application to accommodate their own vehicle washing
strategies.
The Pivoting Wheel Stinger™ operation is initiated by a programmed output from the main system controller. A PLC
inside the component control panel energizes a 2-position open center solenoid valve providing air to a cylinder and
placing the manifold arms in the start position. Designed with a pendulum motion the start position of the Pivoting
Wheel Stinger™ manifold arms is 30-inches off center of the frame toward the entrance of the tunnel. A bell hose style
switch is used to signal the input and turn the system on.
Upon receiving the signal the air pressure is released allowing natural gravity motion until the first proximity target is
sensed, which energizes the second position of the valve and providing air to the cylinder. This allows the manifold
arms to travel an additional 30-inches, following the vehicle down toward the exit of the tunnel, providing 60-inches of
linear travel to maximize the length of time on the vehicle wheels. The manifold arms return to the start position once
the proximity end of travel target has been sensed, and will repeat the application for the rear tires upon receiving the
second input signal from the bell hose switch. Once the rear tire application is complete the system controller will shut
off the Pivoting Wheel Stinger™ function, and the manifold arms will sit in a rest position in alignment with the frame.
The Pivoting Wheel Stinger™ for the Mix & Match Tunnel Line utilizes the classic 4x6 aluminum frame, which has
been used on traditional Belanger equipment. The overhead assembly contains the mechanical drive shaft and by
design provides a pivot point that is much higher than the applicators to achieve maximum linear travel. Air over oil
canisters are assembled on the upright utility leg to adjust the speed of manifold arms linear motion, and should be
adjusted to correspond with the conveyor line speed.
Note: Uncrate and inspect shipment for damage, and to verify that all pieces are there. If there is
any damaged equipment, file a claim with the trucking company immediately. Receiving
party is responsible for filing claim with trucking company. Notify your local distributor or
Belanger, Inc. immediately If shipment is determined damaged or incomplete.
