Trouble Shooting: Optional Flasher Control Unit
Problem Cause Solution
No lighting • No power • Test power as follows:
• Check voltage between terminals 2 and 3 on the
flasher module. It should read 115 to 120 VAC. If it
does not read correctly, trace back to power supply.
• Bad flasher module • Test flasher module as follows:
• Turn off the power.
• Disconnect potentiometer from terminals 4 and 5 and
replace with a 40” (1 meter) jumper wire.
• Disconnect load from 1 and 3 and replace with
voltmeter or multimeter.
• Turn power on.
• Meter reading should fluctuate rapidly between 0 and
120VAC. If it does not, replace flasher module.
• Dirty potentiometer • Turn rapidly in both directions.
• Bad potentiometer • Test potentiometer as follows:
• Turn off the power.
• Disconnect potentiometer from terminals 4 and 5.
• Connect leads of OHM meter or multimeter between
potentiometer leads.
• Rotate potentiometer clockwise then counter
clockwise. Meter should read 0 to 1 MEG OHM. If it
does not, internal parts of potentiometer may be dirty.
• If meter is stuck in one position anywhere between 0
and 1 MEG OHM, replace potentiometer.
Lights constantly on • Bad flasher • Test flasher module as follows:
• Turn off the power.
• Disconnect potentiometer from terminals 4 and 5.
• Disconnect load from 1 and 3 and replace with
voltmeter or multimeter.
• Turn power on.
• Meter should read zero for a long period. It should then
jump to 120VAC. If it does not, replace flasher.
• Short in wire between terminals 1 • Check connection.
and 2
• Replace wire or terminal strip.
