“These are two really strong organizations, each with

Chicago Zoological Society’s vice president of clinical
medicine and current president of the AAZV. “It was
incredible to get over 600 talented veterinarians in
the same room.”
STAFF Expert in Care
Chicago Zoological Society veterinarians continue to
set the bar higher and higher. Dr. Sathya Chinnadurai,
the Society’s senior staff veterinarian, recently achieved
board certification and diplomate status by the American College of
Animal Welfare (ACAW).
These diplomates are veterinarians with advanced training who are
recognized as board-certified experts in animal welfare. ACAW was
established in 2012, and there are currently only 60 veterinarians who
have completed the certification process—and Chinnadurai is one
of only three with a primary background in zoological medicine. To
achieve this certification, Chinnadurai had to complete a credentialing
process and rigorous multiday examination.
We are very proud of Chinnadurai for achieving this great honor and
helping to ensure our animals continue to receive the highest quality
of care.
In addition to his recent achievements, Dr. Sathya 7
Chinnadurai is also the only board-certified specialist
in both zoological medicine and anesthesiology in
North America.
