Strange Encounters

“Mika, wake up an go get ready,

“Her mother’s voice rang out in the hallway.

She knew that if she didn’t respond then her

mother would take the opportunity to burst

into her room so she called out “I coming

out now mama”. She rose from the bed and

stretched out the length of her caramel

body. Mika let out a heavy sigh for she

knew that her routine always began here.

Her mother ensures that Mika

spends majority of the day studying,

completing homework and chores. Mika’s

mother keeps her daughter under strict

surveillance and discontinued her

involvement with friends so that she would

focus more on school work. “Mika I doan

hear nuh water running” her mother

warned. Mika snapped into action and

scurried out of her room towards the

bathroom.
