The
Christian Nevell Bovee, American writer, mention in one of his
book that the small courtesies sweeten life, the greater, ennoble
it. Sometimes, the seemingly trivial acts we perform are the most
important. Courtesy is an example. We refer to it in different
ways, such as civility, good manners, good behaviour, good
conduct, politeness, decency, respect for others, thoughtfulness,
kindness, and consideration. No matter what we call it, courtesy
is not trivial. Quoting from Muslim, Abu Daud “Rude talk does not
bring anything except shame! Modesty and decency decorate
wherever they may be". This clearly shows our manners, then, are
the clothes we wear. It reveals what type of person we are. We
need to teach the young by our examples that the strong are
kind. The strong reach out and connect with others. Remind
them that being rude does not mean they are cool and it does
not bring any good at all.
"Manners are of more importance than laws. Manners are what
vex or soothe, corrupt or purify, exalt or debase, barbarise or
refine us, by a constant, steady, uniform, insensible operation,
like that of the air we breathe in, “ , Edmund Bruke. Are those
words too strong? Does the statement considered exaggerate?
Think wisely. Would a considerate person steal? A kind student,
bully? A thoughtful person, cheat? A respectful person, murder?
No, because manners and morals flow from the same principle:
consideration for others. So, as we raise the level of courtesy that
is practised in society, we lower the crime rate! Do not tell me
that the act of courtesy does not bring a great impact when
everything that a courteous person gives us is a better world-
away from negativity.
To conclude everything that I have mentioned above, the
statement courtesy cost nothing but buys everything is indeed a
great way to remind others that we should put manners before
everything else as it leads to the birth of a wonderful world with a
great society living in it. There is every reason to be courteous
and no justification for rudeness. Treat other people with respect
and dignity. Eric Hoffer says, "Rudeness is the weak man's
imitation of strength." So, it is in your own best interest to always
at all times exhibit courtesy in all you do and forge ahead in life.
Please take this as a simple act of courtesy from me.
