After extensive renovations, the Courbevoie greyhound track opened its doors on July 9,
1936. It operated from 1936 to 1951, when it closed. Quickly, owners, with their
Greyhounds that had raced at Courbevoie, recreated and organized races on occasional
grounds (such as football stadiums). For 10 years, pari-mutuel betting remained
prohibited, and in 1961, at the initiative of Jacques Verchere, it was authorized again. It
wasn't until the mid-1970s that new greyhound tracks reopened: Mont de Marsan,
Carnoux-en-Provence, etc.
By a decree in 2020 betting on money at greyhound racing was banned again; only
amateur sport is permitted now.
