A dog could not be entered for both competitions. For the title to be awarded, more than

10 dogs had to be at the start. If fewer than 5 dogs per breed were registered, that breed
could not participate. If there were insufficient dogs per gender registered, the males
and females ran together. For Greyhounds and Whippets, at least 8 dogs per gender had
to be registered, for the other breeds 6. The dogs had to be at least 15 months old and
were allowed to participate until the year in which they turned 8. In later versions of the
rules (1979), the numbers were adjusted to a minimum of 6 at the start and a minimum of
8 dogs per breed and gender at the start for separate races. The minimum age for

participation was set at 15 months for small breeds and 18 months for large breeds. Many
of these requirements still apply today.

The winners of the Europe race (Europaren) received a turquoise blanket with gold
lettering and the winners of the UICL title a white blanket with gold lettering. The

distances run were 475 meters for large breeds and 350 meters for Whippets (these
        distances still apply today).

After the UICL congress, a racing competition was organized in Kandersteg, Switzerland,
on September 1, 1968. In the catalog for this competition, we see two Sloughis/Galgos
listed separately as participants for the first time. Four years earlier, it had been decided
that the Sloughis and Galgos had to run together with the Greyhounds. Earlier that year,

on May 11, three Sloughis (the female Suleika and the males Arba and Shidi) had already
participated in a scientific study of running times and their recording by Omega.
