The first Sloughi participation in a racing competition in Europe, September 1,

During this period, the UICL began to develop a training program for track officials,

consisting of both theoretical and practical components. Until then, there had been no
organized training whatsoever. In 1970, the first list of internationally recognized
officials, judges, and track commissioners was published.

Hungary submitted a request for membership. This was rejected for the time being
because they only wanted to race Greyhounds and organize two races per week with a
totalizator. This was not in line with the amateur sport for all sighthound breeds as

practiced within the UICL. Within the UICL, the Netherlands and Germany were the
largest countries with 8 and 7 international races per year, respectively followed by
Switzerland with 2 and Austria, Czechoslovakia, Finland, and Belgium with 1 race each.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the UICL, a UICL rally was organized in April
1973. Eighty-one participants from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and the Netherlands

took part with 58 dogs. The aim was to strengthen ties between the international
participants and to promote international cooperation between the various sighthound
organizations. Interpersonal contacts were the most important aspect. Lectures were
held, there were party evenings, and a race and coursing event was organized. (Following
this example, the German Sloughi breeder Mr. Schritt organized several Sloughi rallies in
the 1990s).

In the same year (1973), Sloughis were registered at the UICL exhibition for the first time,
with 13 entries! It would take until 1977 before the first Sloughis were registered for the
UICL race.
