In 1963, the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) established a Commission for
Sighthounds, the Commission de Lévriers (CdL). This is the predecessor of the current
Commission for Sighthound Sport CSS. The CdL also dealt with breed standards and
exhibitions, while the current CSS only organizes and regulates the international sport.

There was a change in the working language, from French to English. During these years,
the following countries were represented in the UICL: Belgium, Germany, Finland, France,

Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and Spain.

In 1966, due to the ever-increasing number of participants, it was decided that from then
on, a UICL race would be held on the same weekend, for which all participants affiliated
with the UICL through their club could register, and a Europe race (Europaren), for which
each country would send a limited number of its best racing dogs. The maximum number

of, for example, 4 or 6 per breed and gender has changed a few times over the years. This
was mainly because it was sometimes quite a challenge for the organizing associations,
which only worked with volunteers, to ‘process’ the large numbers of participants in such
a weekend.
