2009 FCI Racing European Championship, Gelsenkirchen, September 5-6
403 dogs were registered for the championship from 11 different countries, 125 dogs
were registered for the Friendship races, a total of 528! 18 Sloughis were entered for the
championship, 8 females and 10 males were at the start. 5 Sloughis got a disqualification,
3 a ‘nicht durch’ (stopped during the race) one was not at the start. 8 Sloughis were
registered for the Friendship Races. Very well organized event on the new sand track; it
was opened only 3 weeks before the championship! One Italian Greyhound ran off the
track on to the street and was missing till Tuesday. His owner found him relatively
unharmed but very tired. One of the Magyar Agar’s was injured during the race, so the
lure operator stopped the race, which was the only correct decision. However, a number
of Hungarian participants disagreed and even went so far as to threaten some of the
officials. This was very unsportsmanlike behavior! Fortunately, Sunday passed without
further problems.
