2012 FCI Racing World Championship, Mont-de-Marsan, France, September 1-2
260 Dogs from 13 different countries were registered, only 206 were present. It was said that
the costs for the petrol and highway toll and the new regulations were to blame. The
veterinary checks were very poor during the whole event. The times achieved in the
preliminary runs were not announced by the speaker. Only the team managers were later
given a printout with this information. The festive opening was also very modest. The
Greyhound final was in fact illegal because the leading dog was in front of the hare. This was
the first event with a maximum of 12 males per breed and gender per country.
No Sloughis entered.

2013 FCI Racing European Championship, Versoix, Switzerland, September 7-8
At this track a lot of big events took place in the past: in 1977, ’81, ’85 and ’89 the UICL Europe
races; in 1998 the FCI World Championship Racing and in 2003 and 2008 the FCI European
Championship Racing. So a very experienced group of volunteers. The grass track was very
well prepared but the camping site was in a harvested wheat field, with hard stubble, not really

pleasant for dog paws. And for the third consecutive time it was a grass track, not a sand.
Something the Greyhound owners prefer. There were only 15 of this breed registered. Prior to
the event, the Commission des Lévriers (CdL) had decided to remeasure all Whippets and
Italian Greyhounds, which caused much discussion. The location of the measurement was also
not ideal, right next to the race track. The results were posted in a location that was
inaccessible to the participants because the veterinary inspection for the following day was to
take place there. The entrance to the canteen was also blocked by this inspection. Something
one would not expect from such an experienced team. All dogs that competed in the final
underwent an additional check by one of the many veterinarians present.
For this event 354 dogs were registered, from 13 different countries.
