2019 FCI Racing European Championship, Gelsenkirchen, Germany, September 6-7-8-9
This club had also already organized some major championships in the past (1984, 1993,
1999, 2009). The volunteers, both from Germany and abroad, have much experience and
knowledge.
Registered were 460 dogs, coming from 13 countries, spread across 15 breeds for the
races on this sand track. Owners obviously train their dogs for these events; some of
them even come from Italy or Hungary (over 1000 km) to train at Gelsenkirchen and
become familiar with this track.
Every dog takes part in 2 preliminary runs, the fastest time decides for a place in the
finals. In these runs there is a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 dogs running. Only if
there are 6 or less dogs in a breed, they run 1 preliminary run. With 2 dogs it is regarded
as a show-run. In the finals the owner of the fastest dog, with the red jacket, can choose
the starting box. Then the owner of the second fast dog, with the blue jacket can choose
his box and so on. For the champion at every championship there is a beautiful
embroidered jacket, his national flag is raised and the national anthem is played,
something really special.
