carriage resulting in many dogs bred directly
from them had large drop ears. Going
forward with careful selection and breeding ,
ears became standarsized to be smaller and
better placed and naturally pricked. Drop
ears are still within the UK breed standard.
The first Classes for Miniature Pinschers
in the UK were at Crufts in 1956 and later
in 1958 four sets of Challenge Certificates
were granted. In 1959 the breed was
granted ten sets which included one set for
a breed show at LKA. In 1964 the club held
its first Champinship show in its own right.
The Miniature Pinscher Club of Great
Britain was formed in 1955 with the first
club meeting taking place on April 25th
and held at the Eccleston Hotel in Victoria
London. The clubs patron was Her Serene
Highness Princess Antoinette of Monaco,
a postion held until her death in 2011. Mr
Ernest Dawson was one of the orgional
founder members of the club, he served as
a committee member, secretary,treasurer
and then president.
Today, the club continues to go from
strength to strength, with well over two
hundred members. The breed itself has
seen a rise in poularity in recent years
and the Club plays an important role in
this with education about health testing
and advice for its members. We regulary
hold breed specific seminars for up and
coming judges along with two open shows,
one championship show per year and our
Miniature Pinscher of the Year event.
We also run a successful breed club website
and facebook page where people can
access all the latest information/news about
the club events. The website is also a great
source for health / welfare news.
This year the club had planned many special events for our 65th anniversary but sadly due to the
Covid 19 pandemic have now been postponed until 2021, so we look forward to celebrating the
special year then.
