Non UE Subjects

Some subjects/courses offered at SHGC are not on the University Entrance Approved
subject list. These subjects do not count as one of the three 14 credit approved subjects
toward University Entrance but do count toward the additional credits required for
                   Level 3 NCEA.

                   These subjects/courses are:
                       • ESOL
                       • Gateway
                       • STAR
                       • Trades Academy

Students wishing to focus on degree courses at University must ensure their course
meets UE requirements and course entry requirements and not get side tracked
completing other National Certificates or Unit Standards they may not get maximum
                   recognition for.

Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu

Studying through Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (The NZ Correspondence School)
It is possible that a student may be able to take subjects and/or levels that are not
offered within the SHGC subject choices for 2020. This would be through Te Aho o Te
Kura Pounamu (New Zealand Correspondence School) but very strict entry criteria apply.
A subject can only be taken via correspondence if the student:
                       • has already taken the subject through the junior school or
                       • has studied the subject at a previous school or
                       • has exhibited ability to be an independent learner or
                       • has a special reason such as a cultural affinity (for taking a language)
Any student who may be considering taking a subject by correspondence should speak
with Mr Murray or their Dean.

                              University Study

At times some students with excellent academic records are permitted to take
university papers. Initial queries regarding university study should go through Mr
                   Murray (Deputy Principal).
