History of Art



                Aims: To understand through investigating the functions of art within its historical, social and
                cultural context. Art History investigates and questions changing notions of taste and beauty,
                the canon of fine art, and the formal qualities, elements and principles of art, criticism and art
                                                       appreciation.

               Competencies: Critical thinking; Creative thinking; Making sense of information, experiences
               or ideas and problem solving; Recognising different points of view; Negotiating, and sharing
               ideas. Producing texts of all kinds: written, oral/aural, and visual, informative and imaginative.

               Pathways this course contributes towards: University courses where L3 HOA is a
               requirement. Possible pathways may include Museum curator, Art critic, Art dealer, Lawyer,
               Psychologist, Antiques and collectables, Historian, Artist, Film & Media industries, Arts and
               creative industries.
