Calculus
Aims: To promote advanced mathematical thinking and communication by developing
mathematical reasoning and methodology, leading to integrated techniques for problem
solving and mathematical modelling.
Competencies: Problem Solving and Modelling; Advanced Mathematical Communication;
Advanced Mathematical Thinking; Logic and Reasoning.
Pathways this course contributes towards: University courses where Level 3 Calculus is a
requirement eg engineering, computing, architecture.
Other essential information: A prerequisite is achievement, preferably Merit in appropriate
Level 2 Mathematics. Students can also do the Level 3 Statistics class as well. This course will
help learners in other subject areas eg Level 2 Physics, Chemistry. There is an opportunity
for subject endorsement. A graphics calculator eg Casio fx-9750GII is required.
Leader of Learning: Mrs Costelloe
