PRIMARY INDUSTRIES SECTOR
There are a huge range of jobs in this sector, with a variety of experiences and opportunities
on offer. You may work alone in isolated areas or work in group situations. There are also
plenty of sophisticated high-tech toys to play with and plenty of on the job training to help
you learn to use them. If not directly involved with working on the land you may be
employed as an advisor, in accountancy or in the veterinary area.
Students from Sacred Heart have chosen to do courses in areas such as Agriculture, Equine,
Animal Care, Vet Nursing, Grounds person, Chain Saw Safety, Stock Handler.

SERVICE INDUSTRIES SECTOR
The Service Sector is for those who like working with people. Good communication and
presentation skills are important. Working in teams and dealing with people means that
you’ll need to speak and listen well to others and relate to people from all walks of life.
Knowledge of New Zealand and local culture and heritage is a real asset.
Students from Sacred Heart have chosen to do courses in areas such as Front of House,
Barista, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Fitness Training, Chefing, Reception and Retail.
Students have the opportunity to apply for a position on the RED SHIRTS programme run in
conjunction with ServiceIQ. On this course students work towards a National Certificate in
Retail.

MANUFACTURING AND TECHNOLOGY SECTOR
This sector covers a range of working styles and options. You might be working with huge
lumps of metal or delicately assembling tiny component parts – so small you can’t even see
them without nanotechnology. You could be working with machinery and equipment or
maybe a computer, producing millions or designing individual items.

Cabinet Making, Screen Printing, Soldering, Electrical
