History
Aims: To fire students’ curiosities and imaginations. To invite them to ask and answer
questions of today by engaging with the past and imagining and speculating on possible
futures. They will investigate the histories of their communities, New Zealand and the wider
world.
Competencies: Critical thinking, making sense of information, experiences or ideas;
Challenging the basis of assumptions and perceptions; Recognising different points of view,
negotiating, and sharing ideas; Producing texts of all kinds: written, oral/aural, and visual,
informative and imaginative, informal and formal; Being enterprising, resourceful, reliable,
and resilient, establishing personal goals, making plans, managing projects; Contributing
appropriately as a group member.
Pathways this course contributes towards: University courses where History or Classical
Studies is a requirement e.g. Bachelor of Arts, Law. Vocational Pathways: Social and
Community Services and Creative Industries.
