Design and Visual Communication

Prerequisites: None
Content: The study of Graphics (Design and Visual Communication) enables students to
conceptualise, develop and communicate design ideas and potential outcomes providing
them with skills to interpret and communicate visual forms. It is a subject that engages
students in the purposeful study of drawing and design and challenges them to develop and
communicate design ideas.

Prerequisites: None
Content: Students will use a range of software tools to gather, edit, manipulate and critically
evaluate data and information for a range of outcomes. Students will demonstrate creative
thinking, construct knowledge, problem solve and develop innovative outcomes using
appropriate technology. Students practice legal and ethical behaviour with an
understanding of cultural and societal issues related to technology and information. The
course is divided into four topics of work: Microsoft Word and Excel; Adobe Photoshop and
Fireworks; Web Design; Programming.

Food Technology
Year 10
Prerequisites: None
Content: Students will learn to develop an understanding of the different processes used in
food preparation and production. Today, through sophisticated processing and packaging
technologies, people can buy a wide range of food products. In this course students will
learn to communicate key attributes of food products, understand and follow key stages
and produce food outcomes that meet the requirements of a given design brief. They will
use planning tools to manage time effectively and learn safe food and hygiene practices.
