Page 18 - Crisis in Higher Education
P. 18
Acknowledgments
There are many people to thank for their contributions to the creation of
this book including teachers, mentors, and colleagues who, over the years,
have taught me and provided important insights about higher education.
A special thanks to Dr. Thomas Sharkey, faculty colleague, administrator,
and friend for the many discussions I had with him about higher education
as well as for reading an early draft of the book. Dr. Thomas Gutteridge,
former Dean of the College of Business and Innovation at the University
of Toledo, was a role model for what good administrators must be so that
faculty and more importantly students can be successful in the classroom
and in the job market. A big thank-you to both of them for stimulating
conversation and ideas that became part of the analysis of the problems
and elements of the solution.
A special thank-you to William T. Walker CFPIM, CIRM, CSCP,
a resource management series editor for CRC Press/Taylor & Francis
Group, who guided me through the writing and creative processes, giving
me valuable comments as well as reading the manuscript and providing
excellent feedback; Michael Sinocchi, publisher for Productivity Press,
who saw potential in these ideas; Alexandria Gryder, editorial assistant
for Productivity Press, who provided important insights about the writing
and editorial aspects of the book; and Judith Simon, production editor for
CRC Press, who guided me through the completion of the manuscript.
Finally, I want to express my thanks and love to my wife, Gayle, who was
a constant source of encouragement, support, and advice. Her insights as
a professional educator and school psychologist helped me to stay focused
on the important issues. She gladly accepted additional responsibilities so
that I could focus on the book.
