Despite only studying 3D for a short
while, Si Chen Wang’s grounding
in traditional art makes him feel as
though he has a head start. He explains;
“I think using 3D software is only one
aspect of making art – the awareness of
what makes a good image is also very
important. I suggest people who are
already good at 3D can improve their
work by learning art theory.”
For Si Chen Wang, the process
starts with a reference image, which
becomes a simple series of boxes to test
composition possibilities. The next
stage is to make models to replace the
boxes. With the image set up, textures
are applied before rendering takes
place. Photoshop is where the final
touches are made.
For this particular artist, like
many others, art becomes a way of
escaping from whatever is going on
around them, as he reveals: “I want to
create something of my own, create a
different world, want to express some
peace, no war, no trampling of nature, a
hope for a beautiful world. So I use my
own way to do something.”
