Three—Jungle-Gym Catastrophe
The orthopedic surgeon with ebony skin and big black eyes took roll after roll of pink casting plaster from the cupboard.
“This is my first cast,” said Aimi.
“And I hope it’s your last!” said Grami.
“I hope it will be, too,” said Dr. Stafford, laughing.
“But someone will have an accident and I’ll need to put a cast on his or her broken bone. That’s my job. If there were no broken bones I’d be out of work.”
“Our cousin Connor wants to take care of animals when he grows up,” said Tad. “Not people. He might have to put a cast on a dog’s broken leg.”
Dr. Stafford smiled and nodded. She pulled something carefully over Aimi’s arm.
“Hey, that looks like a sock!” said Aimi. “Are you putting a sock
on my arm?” “Yes, I
am,” said the orthopedic surgeon with ebony skin and big black eyes. “It’s an arm sock. It will help protect your skin from the
casting plaster.”
