through the products of illusion. People continue to keep their minds con ned to values based upon an ego-dominated reason. They continue to be identi ed with what they are not, and try to quench their thirst for peace and bliss in sparkling waters of a mirage. Instead of realizing the universal unity of life, they continue to assert themselves as individuals, interpreting their successes and failures in the language of the limited mind.
It is this faulty movement in ignorance that lls the human heart with morbid sentiments. Instead of the sublime sentiment of universal love, people develop love ruled by ego; and such love fans the smoke of violence, greed, hatred, passion, and manifold perversions in their personalities. Without a center deeper than their ego, they will be unable to develop courage during adversity; they will nd themselves helpless when their temper overpowers their mind like a raging storm; and they will remain confounded when confronted with frustrating conditions of life and diverse circumstances caused by human relationships.
On the other hand, if the human heart were lled with the vision of truth, people would possess the most sublime qualities of the head and heart. It would be impossible for them to cause disharmony in the world. Rather they would be a source of higher ideals that promote peace and understanding
