For the above work to be completed the fuselage/wing structure was lifted up and supported approximately five

feet above hangar floor as seen below and this was started right at the quarter’s end.

wheel work later in the quarter

                                             Fuselage and Tail Fin

The tail fin parts were pulled out of storage and the assembly was started. Due to earlier testing with the

         th
1/5 scale radio controlled model of the Avro Arrow, it was determined that the rudder would be scaled back to
approximately two thirds the original size. So the first task was to cut the rudder part and join the upper section

to the front part of the fin.

While this was under way, the foam board was prepared and covered by a single layer of fibreglass and was

available for drawing and cutting the fin and rudder’s ribs. The two fin spars were cut to size from existing carbon

fibre sheet stock and carbon fibre rod stock was cut and used in the assembly of the caps for both spars. The fin

spar caps were bonded in place using T88 epoxy. Compression posts were installed on the main tail fin spar as

the quarter ended. This work on the tail fin will continue into the next quarter with our objective being to
assemble the tail fin with one side skin installed such that the fin may be temporarily installed on the aircraft for

the July Wings over Springbank Airshow.

             fuselage

Also, a temporary nose cone was fabricated and attached to the fuselage to provide

a more aesthetically pleasing appearance of the aircraft
