Who?
Mr. Mokete is an English teacher with little teaching experience. He is currently doing
his degree in English from university of South Africa. His class consists of total number
of 45 learners, 25 females and 20 males. Their age group is ranging from 15 to 18
years. His learners are mostly speaking Zulu as their home language and there are
fifteen learners who speak Setswana. Most of his learners are not being exposed to the
language of teaching and learning at home besides the school. Most of his learner’s
parents are Christians and only few believe in traditional customs.
Where?
The school is situated in Gauteng province. There is a primary school just next to the
high school. The lesson will take place inside a classroom. There are not enough chairs
and tables to accommodate all the learners and most of the time they have to share. It
becomes difficult when they are given an individual task to perform in class. The class
blocks of the school are facing each other and the staff room is isolated from the
classes. There is a projector in the classroom and a whiteboard. The tables are facing
each other for the learners to be able to facilitate group works.
When?
The lesson will take place at half past ten on thursday morning. The period will run for
40 minutes. The lesson will take place inside a classroom as it is September and the
weather are likely to be hot in the mornings. There are no events taking place during
Thursday morning besides choir practice only after one o’clock.
