ANNUAL REPORT | 2021

        Transformation Partnerships &

        Participatory Grantmaking

In 2021, Together Women Rise announced new and exciting plans for our Grants & Partnerships Program. Our
Sustained Grants and Impact Partnership Grants will evolve into new Transformation Partnerships that will focus
on systems change within the most pressing gender inequality challenges.
Our 2021 Our Transformation Partnerships will allow us to channel more resources toward the root causes of global gender

Impact Partnerships inequality – the social and cultural norms, beliefs, practices, and laws that prevent women from having equal access
to resources, decision-making power, and opportunity. Some examples may include addressing lower wages, gender-
based violence, lack-of-land ownership, and unequal political representation.

Our new Transformation Partnerships will be launched in 2022 and will utilize a participatory grant-making
approach. While Together Women Rise is already a highly collaborative organization, the goal of participatory
grantmaking is to bring people most knowledgeable about a problem into the decision-making. It empowers those
directly affected by a problem to have a greater say in solving it. This leads to more thoughtful and informed projects
and can encourage new initiatives and help build the trust and collaboration necessary for long-term effectiveness.

Systems change – which focuses on changing the real root causes of women’s inequality – and participatory
grantmaking – which empowers local women to make more of their own project decisions – are two powerful ways
Together Women Rise will foster gender equality in the future.
                 “

       By shifting more decision-
     making to local communities,
   and recognizing and encouraging
    their knowledge, we help build

    leadership, agency, and power
in the very women we want
              to strengthen.
