Case 4
A 49-year-old HIV-positive man presented with a painless, firm palatal
mass that rapidly increased in size over the previous 4 months. The large
mass had been compromising speech and mastication, so that the patient
reported a weight loss of over 10 pounds in the interval since its onset. The
maxillary anterior teeth were markedly mobile. There was slight blanching
with the application of pressure. The remaining oral soft tissue examination
was within normal limits. There was no palpable cervical lymphadenopathy
and no perioral abnormality was noted.
