Ham: Are you still with Global International Co., Ltd., Mr. Smith?
Smith: Yes, I am. Mr. Ham, why do you ask?
Ham: I called your office the day before yesterday and the man who answered the telephone
said there was no such person in that department. I didn’t expect that answer. I thought you
resigned, but then I thought that it would be impossible. You’re doing so well at Global. They
                  can’t afford to lose you.
Smith: Oh, I see. That is probably because I was transferred to a new building two months ago. I
am still the General Director of the Overseas Sales Department, but my office is now in an an-
nex building. I’m very happy at Global, and I’m glad that the company gives me opportunities to
work overseas. Aside from giving me a chance to see new places, I also get to work with other
colleagues. I always learn a lot from my work experiences overseas.
Ham: Oh, I see. I am glad to know that you never really left Global, or else I would be adjusting to
a different person. It’s so much easier to work with you, Mr. Smith.
Smith: Thank you very much for calling. Please drop by anytime when you are in the area. We can
get a cup of coffee and talk business.

               1. Have you ever worked abroad? Why did you have to go there?

                  Sample answer:
Yes, I had to stay in Japan for one month to attend a long-term training for my post as depart-
                  ment supervisor.

               2. What are the challenges in working at the sales department? Or working
                  abroad?

                  Sample answer:
It’s hard to work abroad because you are in a foreign land. You have to make many adjustments.
Working at sales requires one to have good rapport with people. That’s hard to do especially if
one is the foreigner in a workplace.

               3. What are the blessings and drawbacks of working abroad?

                  Sample answer:
