1. You heard that your best friend has been missing paying his taxes on time,
and that he uses all his money for his vices on gambling, women, smoking,
and drinking. He received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service, re-
questing him to pay his dues. You talked to him over the phone.

Sample answer:
Hello Gary, this is Fiona I don’t want you to think about anything else from me. I know that it’s
hard for you to stop your vices, but as I can see in you, you’re getting worst than ever. We all
care about you and that we want you to change before it’s too late. Having those vices changed
everything in you. We rarely see that you’re paying your taxes on time because you’re spending
all your money on your vices. You were not this typical type of person. Can’t you see that you
have to pay a large amount to the Internal Revenue Service because of your pass due? They
can really send you a subpoena once you didn’t cooperate with them. Listen, if you have some
financial problems now because of your vices, I’ll be glad to help you out with half of the lapsed
dues in your tax. Promise me to stop acting like this; forget all your vices and change. Ok, I think
we just have to start with your letter of explanation and a request to allow you to pay in halves
to make it easier for you. You can change! Hey, before I end this call, I want you to promise that

2. Your alien friend had problems with regards to paying his taxes. He too can’t
understand why our government needs to get tax from him, yet he is not a
citizen. He’s been calling the Internal Revenue Service about this, but since
he couldn’t speak and understand English very well, he has a hard time
understanding the case very well. You tried to talk to him over his mobile
phone to explain everything in the way that he’ll be able to understand it.

problems with regards to paying your taxes here. Is it true that you can’t understand why the
government has to oblige you to pay even if you’re an alien? Ok, I’ll explain it to you slowly
because they told me that you’ve been calling the office about this confusion. Although you
are not a natural born citizen here, you are still required to pay your taxes here because you
work here, right? You use the service roads when you drive, go to public places and live like a
national/citizen here. Everybody who is earning and receiving salary from this country needs
to pay his taxes, both national and alien residents. I hope you now get the answer and finally
