Sports Medicine I emphasizes Sports Medicine career Athletic Trainer Dental Hygienist
exploration and the prevention of athletic injuries. The class Anesthesiologist Dietitian
will also cover components of exercise science, kinesiology,
anatomy, principles of safety, first aid, cardiopulmonary Biomedical Engineer Health Educator
resuscitation (CPR), and vital signs. The course also covers Chiropractor Lab Technician
legal issues, members of the sports medicine team, Dental Assistant Nursing Assistant
nutrition, protective sports equipment, environmental
safety issues, taping and wrapping, mechanisms of injury, Pharmacist Physician
and application of other sports medicine concepts.
(Prerequisite: Biology or instructor recommendation.)
Sports Medicine II emphasizes the assessment and Are you interested in the Medical Field?
rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The content will include Are you a motivated self- starter?

individuals participating in athletic activities. In addition, Can you demonstrate a sincere, caring attitude for the well-being of others?
the use of appropriate therapeutic modalities and exercise
in the care and rehabilitation of injuries will be examined.
Advanced concepts related to the administrative aspects
of the sports medicine program will also be covered in this
course.
(Prerequisite: Sports Medicine I with a grade of 75 or better
or instructor recommendation.)
Sports Medicine III emphasizes the student’s ability
to apply concepts from previous Sports Medicine
course work to real-world situations and scenarios. A
priority will be placed on understanding the current
research and evidence-based practices affecting the
practice of Sports Medicine professionals. Students
are expected to participate in clinical situations
either at school with their athletic department or at
an outside clinical setting for real world experience.
(Prerequisite for Clinical Portion: Students must have 75 or
better or instructor recommendation.)
