Start by forming a cow hitch (figure 29.1) then, working in one direction
only, continue to make hitches forwards (figure 29.2) then follow this with
a hitch backwards. As you work around the ring, the gaps that would
form on the inside of a straight cylindrical object close together within the
circle (figure 29.3).

Cockscombing (three-stranded): in the three-stranded running
cockscomb, the difference is that the half hitches are made alternately
clockwise and anticlockwise in threes (figures 30.1–30.3).
